The Pigeon Test

Coming soon

Simple. Complicated. Complex.

Ever drawn up a plan that made sense, and watched the situation refuse to follow it?

The Pigeon Test reads one situation you’re about to act on, tells you which of the three it is, and what that means for your next move.

Put a ball in a catapult and you can predict where it lands. Put in a pigeon and you can’t. Simple and complicated situations are both the ball; complex ones are the pigeon. Almost everything sold as transformation is calculated as a ball and launched as a pigeon.

It’s nine questions about one situation, and it’s free. What comes back is a reading, not a ruling. Few situations fit neatly into one type, and they can shift.

The tool is written for people new to complexity, or still finding their feet with it. If you can already tell complex from complicated, much of it will be familiar, but it can still catch the moment your gut and your answers disagree, and ask whether the step you’re planning fits the situation.

A question screen from the tool, asking whether you can engineer the outcome you want, with the slider set all the way to having little say in it.
